World Economic Forum on Middle East and North Africa was held in Jordan at the Dead Sea from May 19-21, 2017. Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ambassador of Pakistan to Jordan Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Shafaat Ullah Shah represented Pakistan on the Forum.
The forum brought forth thought provoking conversations with economists, diplomats and experts in international relations on a wide range of subjects. During the Forum sessions, international issues of significance, with a focus on Inclusive economic growth in the Middle East and North Africa regions were discussed.
The sessions provided valuable insights on Transitioning Energy, Global Innovation and Employment, Social Entrepreneurship, Future of Finance, Sustainable Development Goals, Green Industrialization, Food Security, Health and Education, Digital Intelligence, Refugee crisis, Water security, and Precision Medicine.
The Minister represented Pakistan on the relevant forum sessions, met with decision makers and representatives from Middle East and North Africa and held meetings on the sidelines of the forum with Jordan’s Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Ibrahim Saif, Iraq’s Oil Minister Jabar Ali Al Luaibi, Head of Industries and Member of the Managing Board of the World Economic Forum, Ms Cheryl Martin and Country Chairman Shell Jordan, Yusuf Siddiqui.
During the bilateral meetings, he briefed the dignitaries on Pakistan’s economic progress, enhanced scope of foreign direct investment in the country, economic prospects for Pakistan in connection with CPEC and other financial reforms.
